We have had recent incidents involving catalytic converter thefts. Both incidents are under investigation by Anoka PD and Coon Rapids PD, and we are providing assistance. We wanted to send out some information on how to deter thefts of your catalytic converter and also raise awareness of recent legislation involving theft and in particular scrap metal dealers and the security safeguards regarding purchasing catalytic converters from a buyer.

Please take a minute to visit the links at the bottom of this page.

Sec. 325E.21 MN Statutes

As always, if you see something, say something. Often theft activities may involve another vehicle, and more than one person. The vehicle may be parking in close proximity to the targeted vehicle, and of course anyone who is underneath a vehicle while parked should be reported to Public Safety. Let us investigate and determine what the activity may be. Do not confront suspicious activity, call Public Safety.

If you start your vehicle and “it does not sound right” please let us know so we can investigate.

This article highlights Toyota Prius vehicles because they have two converters and are a favorite target vehicle for this type of activity.
